Building Location: Sydenham Lane, Dun Laoghaire
Description: New Build - Design of 3 Bedroom end of terrace mews to rear of dwelling at no. 3 Corrig Avenue
The mews is located in an Architectural Conservation Area and was designed to integrate the site with the streetscape drawing reference from the existing Georgian coach houses using similar width scale. The specification and use of traditional high quality materials in the design have helped the mews to harmonise with the locality. Granite was kept from a boundary wall and re-used in the façade of the new development, roof slates were used that matched those on the protected structure with natural stone and timber finishes specified for the interior.
At ground floor level the building provides spacious open plan living comprising a living / dining and kitchen area that lead through two large double doors onto a covered veranda with garden beyond. In addition to a serviceable WC/utility room, a formal dining area is included at ground floor level.
The staircase with wrought iron balustrades leads from the hallway to three double bedrooms at first floor level and beyond to an attic at second floor level that has been designed to house an extensive record collection. From here there are views across the rooftops to Dun Laoghaire and beyond to Howth Head.
Architecture should speak
of its time and place,
but yearn for timelessness.
